FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS IN KASHMIR

• An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale struck Muzaffarabad (state capital of Pakistani Administered Kashmir) at 8:52 on 8^th October 2005.
• Muzaffarabad was the epicentre of the earthquake.
• The earthquake has been reported to be the most devastating in the history of South Asia.
• The destruction caused by the earthquake is 3 times more than the tsunami.
• The houses, hospitals, government offices and schools have been turned into rubble.
• The earthquake forced people out of their houses and then came the rain and hail storm.
• 57,000 mostly children were killed and the number is increasing by the minute.
• According to an international body approximately 2.2 million children have been injured and 3.5 million have become homeless.
• Thousands of the students are still caught under the rubble of their schools.
• Kashmiris have been suffering from oppression, corruption, poverty and illiteracy for 58 years. The worst of all is illiteracy. If illiteracy is contained the remaining problems will subside and diminish for ever.
• Inadequate and substandard educational facilities have played no significant role in transforming the society from dark ages to the present time.

Kashmir Council of Australia (KCA) has visualised a plan to light a torch of hope in the pit of destruction by transforming this

into this.

We believe this will help them to overcome their pain and suffering and let them resume their normal lives that came to a halt on 8^th October 2005.

Plaques bearing names of the donors will be erected so that your noble deeds live in the hearts and minds of Kashmiris for ever. We only have one life to prove, once gone, we become history. Nobody lives in history, it is the noble deeds that live in history. You can live in the history through your noble deeds too.
