Climate

Kashmir has strange climatic conditions.  Near the middle mountains winter is cold and lasts for a long time.  The monsoons bring a lot of rain.  In the higher mountain areas around the valley, there is often snow fall.   Summer is mild and much shorter than winter.

Within the valley of Kashmir, winter is very cold and lasts from November to March. There are strong winds, snow and rainfall during this period.  Warmer weather begins in the middle of March and lasts till the end of July, but at this time there is a lot of rain causing landslides. 

The lakes and waterways make the atmosphere damp which covers the valley with a haze.
